New Course: Intro to Throwing

Mango in a Pot is now offering a 3-lesson path for anyone who’s interested in starting their wheel throwing journey. The workshops will be given on an individual, one-to-one, basis, meaning we will be scheduling these 3 lessons around your calendar. We can start at any time (if the studios/your calendar allows it) and each lesson is tailored to your learning level.

The lessons are structured as follows:

  • Lesson 1: Introduction to Wheel Throwing

    • Includes a guided demonstration - Taking a ball of clay to a finished piece on the wheel

    • Followed by 70-90 minutes of guided wheel throwing

    • 2 hours in total

  • Lesson 2: Introduction to Trimming

    • Includes a guided demonstration - Trimming and finishing a thrown piece of pottery

    • Followed by 60-90 minutes of guided pottery trimming (you will get a chance to trim your own work)

    • If you have time left after trimming in this session, the remainder of the 2 hours is for you to practice your wheel throwing. You will purposefully be left alone during this time to “figure it out” for yourself, as self-discovery and problem solving are a huge part of learning the wheel. After the lesson, we can discuss challenges you faced and I will offer advice for going forward.

  • Lesson 3: Glazing

    • Includes a guided dip-glazing workshop with the pieces you made in the first two sessions. This third lesson is a bit shorter than the first two, and last as long as it takes for you to glaze your items.
