Alchemizing Earthly Materials with Maybe Studio
This summer, Mango in a Pot is teaming up with Maybe Studio to offer a unique workshop experience!
Oh the things you can do with just your two hands
In this special-edition, 4 hour workshop, we will see the magic of creating with your bare hands. You will first be led by Alina of Maybe Studio, a female-founded, Amsterdam-based, candle company. They make all of their candles from natural beeswax and plant-dyes in their Amsterdam atelier. She will guide you through the process of creating hand-dipped candles from beeswax. A slow and mindful process indeed, the entire workshop will focus on the principle of slow-living and creating with intention.
After you’ve made your own candle, we will then dive into the art of ceramic handbuilding together. The second half of the workshop will be led by Sam, owner of Mango in a Pot. We will use various handbuilding techniques to build a candle holder (and whatever else your heart desires) for the candle that you have just made in the first half of the workshop.
You will be able to take your hand-dipped candle home with you at the end of the workshop. Your ceramic creations will have to hang out at the studio a little bit longer to get fired. The workshop includes a transparent glaze on your ceramic creation at no extra cost, however there is also the option to come back to the studio a couple of weeks after to glaze it yourself in color (for an added fee).
Working with earthly materials
This workshop will focus on the mindful nature of creating with materials provided by our beautiful mother earth. We will begin the session as always with a guided meditation and qigong practice, to get our minds and our bodies prepared for a relaxing and intentional session. Working with natural beeswax and plant dyes will allow you to drop-in and feel beauty the earth has to offer. We will then craft candle holders from the earth herself, with various colors and textures of natural clay available to experiment with.
This workshop is a beautiful opportunity to be flexible in your creativity, undertaking a project from conception to reality, working only with what nature provides us with. The deep satisfaction of creating a piece for your home with your bare hands will be intensified by your deep focus and ability to access your creative depths.
Limited space available
We wanted to keep the group on the small side so that everyone is able to relax and enjoy the workshop without overcrowding. Because of this, space is limited and you are encouraged to book as soon as you can to guarantee you have a space in the workshop.
