Be creative in the comfort of your space

As someone who’s ceramics craft has just recently taken an external studio space, I can agree with those who prefer to practice their creativity in the comfort of their own home. I certainly preferred my living room over a public space because I had more room to be raw, vulnerable and most importantly make mistakes. This is how the idea of the clay club was born. A way to bring the healing power of ceramics to your home, with everything you need.

How will it work?

Each month, there will be a new clay-club box available for purchase. There’s no commitment, you can choose to participate one month and not the next. Every month will be a new project with the first ever clay club box containing all of the materials to make your own tea set. You will have the option to purchase the box with or without tools (depending on whether you already have a set from a previous month) and the kiln firing of your creation at the studio is included.

We’re in it together

The beauty of the clay club is that you will also receive a video tutorial with every box, where I will guide you through the month’s project step by step. Every box will also contain a house-made guide to handbuilding to provide you will a nice base of skills before you embark on the monthly creative challenge.

Even if it seems that being short of inspiration can be near impossible these days (thanks pinterest), each month’s new creative challenge will be a great opportunity to push your creative boundaries and work outside of your comfort zone. It’s also a good excuse to fill your home with handmade, functional art!

This month’s challenge

This month we are channeling a forest aboding frog who frequently meets the local woodland creatures for tea. The teapot will have it’s own whimsical energy, always leaving room for your own interpretation of the project. The video tutorial will guide you through the complete process of handbuilding a functional tea pot, with space for expert advice and tips and tricks for success.

Finalizing the process

Once you’ve made your masterpiece(s), you can bring them over to the studio once they’ve dried and I will fire them for you. I am super excited to see everyone’s version of the monthly challenge! You can then check out the different options for glazing at the studio here.

If you’re not an Amsterdam local but still want to participate, you are more than welcome! Depending on where you’re based, I can provide you with a list of ceramic studios in your area that rent out kiln space for firing.
